In recent years, the population of these incredible White Seahorses, found in oceans across places like Port Stephens and Sydney, have rapidly declined, and they are now considered an endangered species. Scientists say this is due to the loss of important habitats such as seagrass and corals.
 
The Sydney Seahorse Project is an amazing initiative that addresses this issue by creating artificial habitats called ‘Seahorse Hotels’. The hotels are designed to mimic discarded crab traps, which are common homes for seahorses. The structures become covered with algae and sponges to give the seahorses the best chance of survival. Over the years the metal breaks down and disappears, leaving behind a semi-natural reef. The current results of the project look promising!!
